We make big resolutions every year. We say things like “I'm going to learn how to surf this year” or “I'm going to eat healthier this year.” The enthusiasm is real and we're ready to achieve our goals. But a few weeks later, we realize once again that we've completely taken our eyes off them.
Why does this happen again and again every year?
I can totally understand that. Last December, I decided that 2025 would be the year in which I would finally start journaling regularly. On January 1st, I wrote down my goals, motivated and ready to conquer the world. Let's fast forward to mid-November. As I was writing this blog post, I had to ask myself what did I actually want to achieve this year? So I looked at my goals again and was surprised: One of them was to run the 10 km in under an hour at the New Year's Run in Madrid. The catch: I only have one and a half months left and honestly I can't remember when I last ran. 😅

So why do we always fail at our resolutions?
The truth is: Most resolutions fail because we tend to set big and very general goals that are difficult to achieve. Getting fit or being better organized are good intentions, but without a specific plan, you'll forget them again by February at the latest. Without clarity, it's hard to stay motivated and we quickly get off track.
In fact, studies show that only around 8 percent of people actually achieve their New Year's resolutions. That's not surprising when you think about it: Real change requires time, consistency, and small steps. However, most of us expect immediate results and if they don't come right away, we lose motivation.
It doesn't make it better to procrastinate. We think I'll start on January 1st, but this procrastination only makes things more difficult. In the end, we forget what we have set out to do and fall back into old habits.
But there's good news: There's a simple and even really nice tool that can help you stick to it and really achieve your goals this year: a vision board.

What is a vision board?
A vision board is like a dream board for your goals. It is a visual tool that helps you see the life in front of you that you want to create. Basically it is a Collage of images, words and symbolsthat represent your dreams and what you want to achieve. Keeping your goals in mind every day reminds you of what you're working towards and helps you stay focused and motivated.
But it's not just about gluing a few pictures together. It is about choosing consciously. You imagine exactly what you want and break it down into something you can actively work on. It's fun, creative, and a great way to turn your dreams into real, actionable steps.
How does a vision board help you achieve your goals?
Clarity about your goals
A vision board forces you to be specific. Instead of vague goals like getting healthier, you can add pictures of running shoes, healthy food, or a workout plan. The clearer you become, the easier it is for you to take action and work on your goals.
Keeps you motivated
We all have moments when motivation decreases and that's normal. A vision board keeps your goals right in front of your eyes — literally! When you see it every day, it constantly reminds you of your plans and gives you a little push to keep going.
Align your energy with your intentions
When you focus on your goals, you attract the people, opportunities, and resources that match your wishes. A vision board helps you stay connected to your goals and sends out positive energy so that your goals feel more achievable.
Turns dreams into actionable steps
A vision board doesn't just make you dream. It also helps you make a plan. For example, if your goal is to run 10 km, you can add a start number band, a training plan, or a picture of someone crossing the finish line. This makes your goal more tangible and you recognize the steps you need to take.
Keeps you accountable
When you see your goals in front of you every day, you automatically remain responsible. Every time you look at your vision board, it's like a little nudge telling you to remember why you started. It helps you stay focused and motivates you to keep going even when life gets stressful.

How to make your own vision board
Designing a vision board is easy and fun. You can either create it by hand or digitally, whichever feels right for you. Here's how you can start:
- Set your intentions
Before you start collecting pictures, ask yourself a few questions to get more clear about what you really want this year:
What do I really want to achieve in 2025?
What small steps can I take every day to get closer to my goals?
What is the one thing I want to do by the end of the year that will make me proud?
Where do I want to see growth: in my health, career, relationships, or personal development? - Gather your materials
Handmade: Pick up a board (poster, cork board, or whatever you have right now), scissors, glue, magazines, and markers for personal notes or affirmations.
Digital: If you'd rather do it digitally, Canva is a great tool. It's free, easy to use, and offers templates, images, quotes, and icons that are perfect for your goals. - Find your inspiration
Look for images, words, or phrases that inspire you and match your goals. Ask yourself:
Which photos or visuals inspire and motivate me?
Which words or quotes spark a spark in me?
Is there anything I can see every day that brings me closer to my goals?
If you're making it handmade, flip through magazines or print out pictures from the Internet. If you're working digitally, search Canva's image library or Pinterest for images, icons, or quotes that match your vision.

- Design your vision board
Handmade: Arrange the pictures and words on your board until it feels consistent. When you're happy, glue everything down and add personal details: small drawings, quotes, or affirmations that inspire you.
Digital: In Canva, you can easily move, resize, and adjust the design until it's harmonious for you. You can also add text, quotes, or other elements to help you stay focused. - Place your vision board
When your vision board is ready, place your physical board where you see it every day: on the wall, on your desk, or in your bedroom. If you've created a digital vision board, set it as a wallpaper on your phone or computer.
It is important to keep an eye on your goals so that you are always reminded of them. Ask yourself:
Where can I hang my vision board so that I can see it every day and it inspires me?
What small action can I do today that brings me one step closer to my goals?
Ready to make 2026 the year you truly manifest your goals?
